Shopping in Ocho Rios is an adventure in itself.

Unwary first timers, unprepared to deal with the tactics of aggressive vendors, sometimes
leave the markets vowing never to return. We highly recommend you take advantage of our
tourguide/driver services as our guides are very experienced in suppressing the manoeuvres of
these peddlers. Be prepared to haggle and walk away as the majority of vendor asks too much
at first, which gives them the leeway to "negotiate" until the price reaches a more realistic
level. Is shopping fun in Ocho Rios? Some will say a resounding no, but it can be if you are
prepared to be guided.

Island Village - is the newest shopping and entertainment complex in Ocho Rios, including a
variety of duty free and craft stores, restaurants, the Reggae Explosion museum, night life and
a movie theater. Bookland, has a collection of books that cover various aspects of Jamaica,
history, culture, birds, flora and fauna, also cook books and detailed maps of Jamaica.

Taj Mahal Shopping Center - offers dozens of stores selling jewelry, clothing, souvenirs,
cigars etc. Hard Rock Cafe recently opened there.

Soni's Plaza has similar stores to Taj Mahal and a very good Indian restaurant, Passage to
India.

Island Plaza, home to Burger King,  has a good pharmacy and several comprehensive craft
shops with Jamaican art, carvings, ceramics, kitchenware, and the inevitable T-shirts.

Ocean Village - in the center of town offers a variety of stores, banks and restaurants.

Harmony Hall - exhibits and sells paintings and sculptures by top Jamaican artists. Toscanini's
Italian restaurant is located downstairs.

Wassi Art Pottery - employs numerous artisans who turn out wonderful pottery. You'll reach
the place via a winding and impossibly rutted road. Factory tours are free, about 15 minutes,
and include a brief session trying to throw a pot on an electric potter's wheel. Everything is
done the old-fashioned way here, by hand. All glazes used in the process are nontoxic and
FDA approved.

The finished pottery range from the earth- and forest-toned to the bright iridescent patterns.
They will expertly package, insure and ship anything you purchase via Federal Express.

Craft Markets: The Ocho Rios Craft Market has 135 stalls. You can watch a vendor will
weave a hat or a basket or a woodcarver at work. Hand embroidered goods, straw hats, bags,
place mats, local art, caps, sarongs, t/shirts etc provide countless opportunities to sharpen
your haggling skills.

General Food Supermarket is the best place to stock up on local spices, condiments, jerk
seasoning, fruits, coffee, rum cakes, red stripe, rum, liquers, wines, and all your grocery needs.
